Our society is broken into three general layers: high class, middle class, and lower class. How did this happen? Why do some people get paid more money for working less, and some people get paid less for working more? I will try to answer this question in my essay.
Émile Durkheim, a French social scientist who developed a methodology of “combining empirical research with sociological theory’’, (Britannica) thought that the reason for inequality was the protection of the privileges of governments, who control societies and have the opportunity to benefit personally for themselves.
Inequality is the result of the tricks of influential groups striving to maintain their status. If we look closely at the origins of society, we can see the beginning of socialism. People were working for a community, not just for themselves as there were no individual families. They knew that if they did not do their work their society would collapse. But as the human race progressed, men started collecting more products from hunting and scavenging. The effect of that was that men wanted to give legacy specifically to their descendants. As a consequence, the monogamous family began. A monogamous family means that a person is married to only one partner, and the products that are collected by one family stayed in that family. Some families started getting richer and higher in society, and patriarchy developed at the same time.
With the progress of civilization, the growth of wealth became enormous. Its forms are so diverse, its use so extensive and its management in the interests of the owners is so skilful that it has developed into anirresistible force.
The interests of society are undoubtedly higher than the interests of individuals and a fair and harmonious relationship should be created between them. Only the pursuit of wealth is not the ultimate purpose of humanity. Democracy in the management, a society of equality, universal education will show the next higher stage of society, which continuously aims for experience, mind, and science. I hope the time will come when the human mind grows stronger than the domination of wealth, and we will understand that we have to work together to create a balance of wealth that can be accessible to everyone.
